  • PERFORMANCE RATINGS: Control: 8.5, Spin: 7, Power: 6

Review:

Here you will find another table tennis paddle that is very high-end, both in looks and performance. While the price tag does not seem that high at first glance, be aware. This is not a set of table tennis paddles, it is around $30 for a single paddle. While that is relatively expensive for a single paddle, this is not the type of racquet you buy to make a set for your table. This is a specialized weapon that is used by players looking for something that is truly their own.

The paddle is about as good looking as paddles come and you can buy the Killerspin JET200 in a variety of colors. It comes in Navy Blue, Mocha, and Lime. Each has a bright, eye-catching blade and a matching colored handle. The handle is tapered and flares at the end to give players better grip and control. The paddle itself is solid and well balanced to help a player’s all-around game and give a boost to power, finesse, and control.

The paddle overall is durable and very functional but that is not what it is all about. This paddle is personal and it even comes in a stunning case with a notes section inside to write yourself a personalized message or to keep track of your table tennis conquests. This is a paddle that conveys youth, energy, and style.

  • PROFESSIONAL QUALITY – This ping pong paddle contains 5-ply wood and Spryer rubber giving you good spin, speed, and control. Butterfly table tennis rackets are the preferred rackets by professionals.
  • GREAT RUBBER: This Butterfly table tennis racket offers inverted red and black Spryer rubbers with a good balance of speed and spin with emphasis on control to help you beat your opponent.
  • SPONGE LAYER – The 1.7mm sponge layer on this ping pong racket provides just enough speed to attack your opponent with power ping pong shots.

Review:

This is one of the best table tennis paddles around and very affordable as well. It is a paddle that will help improve your game overall and boost your spin, speed, and control. You don’t have to just take our word for it though. That is because Chinese table tennis sensation Zhang Jike officially endorses this table tennis paddle. He won the 2011 and 2013 World Champion and the 2012 Olympic gold medal at the London games along with a host of other titles throughout his illustrious career.

Because of its price, this paddle is great for beginners and amateurs but is not exclusively used by players who are new to the game. This paddle is so legit that it is approved by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to be officially used in their tournaments. This is because the paddle is so good and so versatile that you can truly use it in any situation. It also looks great with its red, white, and blue color scheme so you will always be happy to pull it out.

The handle has an ergonomic grip thanks to its flared design which offers incredible grip. It has a 1.7mm sponge layer for extra speed and power as well as a Spryer rubber face which emphasizes spin and control. It is a durable racquet as well and can stand up to most wear and tear, even if it is being used by younger players. This is a great paddle for any player who wants to get serious about the game and get a paddle that does more for them.

5 Tips on how to pick the best table tennis paddles this year

When looking for the best table tennis paddles, there are a few specific things you want to look for. Once you know what these attributes are, you will be able to make a much more informed decision about what paddle is best for you. Here are X tips on how to pick the best table tennis paddles this year.

Know the parts of the paddle

The first tip is to know the anatomy of a table tennis paddle. You may think it is just the “circle part” and the handle but there is a little more to it than that. A table tennis paddle is actually made up of 4 distinct parts; the handle, the blade, the sponge, and the rubber. Each of these parts can be different depending on what paddle you buy so knowing what companies are talking about when they talk about these sections are important.

The blade is the wooden center of the paddle. The handle is what creates that area to grip the paddle. The sponge is the layer between the blade and the rubber and the rubber is the outer layer of the racquet. Every paddle will vary slightly in these areas like what the handle and blade are made from, the thickness of the sponge (usually represented in mm), and the type of rubber on the outside.

There isn’t a material or a thickness or a type of rubber that is inherently better than another but the specifications of each of these sections on a given paddle will help make up its overall capabilities. So, when you know what pieces of the paddle they are talking about when they talk about a paddle’s traits, you will be better able to understand what the paddle claims to help with and excel at.

Blade materials matter

While most blades are made up mostly of wood, there is some variation. The ITTF specifies that a competition table tennis paddles bust consists of at least 85% wood. That does leave 15% of the paddle that can be made of other, composite materials. What is the difference between paddles that have more wood and ones that have less?

The general rule of thumb is that wood offers better spin and better control than paddles with a lot of composite material. However, many players, especially ones who play at high levels, like composite because it offers something wood does not, consistency. Because wood is a natural material, there will be imperfections that can sometimes lead to bad shots. The more composite a paddle has, the more uniform your shot will be every time you strike the ball.

Think about speed vs. control

Just like the wood vs. composite argument, there will often have to be tradeoffs between control and speed. If you want the ball to jump off the paddle like a shot and o screaming back at your opponent, speed will be your number one concern. If you would rather drop a shot right at the corner of the table where your opponent can’t reach, look for a paddle with more control.

One of the best ways to gauge speed vs control is by the thickness of the sponge. As mentioned above, the sponge is the layer between the blade and the rubber. To figure out what thickness works best for you and your game, here is what you need to know.

The thicker the sponge is, the more speed you will get. This is because the ball will jump off the paddle quicker. The thinner the sponge is, the more control you will have. This is because the ball bounces off slower leading to a more accurate shot. Beginners want to focus on control while more advanced players can opt for speed.

You want spin

As your table tennis game grows, so should your thinking about how much spin you get on the ball. When you play more advanced players, this spin is what will give them a hard time and help you beat them. Spin is also important for any style of game you play whether it is attacking or more conservative.

A big factor in spin is the rubber. There are two main types of rubber, pimpled rubber, and sandwich rubber. The pimpled rubber is probably what you think of when you think back to ping pong paddles from gym class or your local rec center. Sandwich rubber is a much different, smoother texture than the pimpled rubber. Many table tennis paddles have both types of rubber, one on either side of the racquet head.

The sandwich rubber deals with speed but the pimpled rubber is how you get spin. The rule to understand and follow here is that longer pips (a table tennis slang term for pimpled rubber pieces) will equal greater spin. The longer pips cause more friction and grip the ball better which allows for a greater spin rate.

Think about the elements

One of the great things about table tennis is that it is a game you can play indoors or outside. There are many ping pong tables that you can find that can easily stand up to the elements and be played outdoors without getting ruined. These tables make for a very good time in your garage, on your patio or deck, or even poolside.

If you do plan on playing on an outdoor table, you want to make sure that your paddles can stand up to the elements too. Just like the tables, there are many paddles that are marketed specifically for both indoor and outdoor use. Take the time to find these paddles if you are planning on playing outside so you don’t ruin a paddle or paddle set you paid good money for.
